Imagine my surprise finding a Georgia RR Geep painted in GA colors (or close enough) in the middle of South Alabama. A three unit set brings in the grain cars for peanut loading in the head of summer

The red of the unmarked GP10 had faded to pink after a few years in the hot South Alabama sun. This unit never got any markings other than a quickly fading coat of red.

With the grain train now past the switch, the three units left in the feed mill lead now couple to to the rear of the train for a hard pull to spot.

Description:  The ex SP GP9E overheaded and blew several power assemblies a few minutes after this shot. A cloud of steam and silence ended this old soldiers career right before my eyes!

The whole operating fleet is capured in this picture.
Title:  The whole operating fleet is capured in this picture.
Description:  The four units worked as a consist to move the grain from the CSX interchange at Pinchard, AL to Enterprise. With not siding to run around, the train set out three units in the feed mill lead and used the four unit to pull the train slowly clear of the switch so the three could couple to the rear and switch the train into the loading shed.

Three units now pull the rear of the train easbound after bringing it west from CSX to the mill. The next move will cut the train in half for spotting in two long feed mill leads.

Description:  That old CSX highrail signal maintainers truck is used to allow one of the trainmen to run ahead, throw switches and watch for signs of trouble.

A brakeman waits for the fourth GP38 to pull the grain train by the waiting power. This shot shows more of the feed mill structure.

In 2004, the feed mill and primary customer on the Wiregrass Central is worked by usual power of the time. The ex SP GP sports a gray version paint used on a very few units before the black was made the official colors.

Description:  The train actually split its power, leaving these in the lead and used a fourth GP38 to pull the cars past the loader so these three could couple up to the end and shove the cuts into the loading cover. A neat way to reverse power on a train without a siding was this novel move.
