Tom Beckett	General	This station was modeled on the Roman Baths of Caracalla, and was designed to last 700 years before needing major structural work. It lasted only a little more than 50. We lived in Queens at the time, my dad rode the LIRR here going to work, and got some shots of the demolition. It was the greatest act of vandalism of the 20th century, The bright side was that it spurred a conservation movement, led by Jacquelin Kennedy Onassis to save Grand Central Terminal, which stands today as a stunning example of Beaux Arts architecture,	10/6/2024 6:11:46 AM

Tim Darnell	General	Sad indeed. I don't remember if I saw it, and the move across the street to the Post Office was to recapture some of the look of this station. But the damage was already done, and you can't go back sadly.	10/6/2024 8:38:53 PM
