Dziobko. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by John Dziobko, Jr., that was taken West of Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 10 September 1951. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9547 and two more "EH" Class units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9547 was built as an EH-15 in November of 1948, later regeared and reclassified as an EF-15, and retired in December of 1963. They're serving as pushers on a freight train on its way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin, where these three engines will uncouple and return to East Altoona for yet another helper/pusher run up "The Mountain." Looks to me like this photo was taken from the last car of a moving eastbound train! |
