FSF. Here is the first of two successive 35mm color slides of photos by David R. Sweetland that were taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in February of 1961. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8965 and #8963. Both are BS-24M transfer units built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in November of 1951, rated at 2,400 horsepower each, and retired in July of 1966 after just 15 years of revenue service. They are about to pass under the 4th Street Footbridge with an eastbound mineral train. |
