Ah, 1575. I remember riding this car in regular service in the 70's. It's an R-7A, essentially an R 1/9 with an R10 body. I don't recall now exactly why it got the new body-I think it was an experiment of some sort. I miss those old cars. In the 70's when things were rotten and the city had no money, a lot of times the new(R 44's at the time) cars would have a variety of mechanical ills, from brake system issues-the P wire was a new development on those cars-to air conditioning. At least with these, you could open the end doors and get a good breeze going through the train when it was moving. And for a high school kid, riding between cars was the way to go. You'd probably be answering questions from the JTTF if you did that now.
