Amtrak P30CH's ( Pooch ) 718 and 714 (trailing) crossing over Canal Street on the Saint Charles Air Line in Chicago, Illinois on an unknown day in September 1979, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This is Train 59, The Panama Limited, departing Chicago at 4:20 PM daily and arriving at New Orleans at 10:35 AM, by way of IC/ICG rails. In order to reach those rails, Train 59 backed out of Union Station using BN rails (the rails that the train is about to pass over) to Union Avenue Interlocking out of the frame to the left, where it changed direction and climbed up the Saint Charles Air Line to cross town to the IC/ICG main line along Lake Michigan.

Iver Tranes General What kind of car is that behind the baggage car? 9/19/2012 12:34:56 PM
Chuck Zeiler General I don't know for sure, but my guess is that it was a heritage sleeper pressed into service as a dormatory car for the on-board crew. 9/19/2012 2:52:47 PM
