BN SW7 136
BN SW7 136, Minneapolis, Minnesota, May 22, 1984, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Built in March 1950 as GN SW7 164 (c/n 9570) on EMD Order 4005, it became BN 136, was retired in October 1985 and went to ILSX in May 1986. I cannot explain the Flexicoil trucks, modified headlight, or the exhaust stacks (yet) and I'm still trying to figure out when EMD introduced the Flexicoil switcher truck. Please see Comments below, thanks J. B..

J.B. McCallum General The flexicoil trucks were a GN option added to the SW 7's, 9's and 12's. Allows higher speeds than 45 mph for road switching duties. The stacks are " extensions " added after the " bee hive " type spark arrestors were removed, a BN thing. When you remove the arrestors, the stacks are too short and fumes enter the cab. The headlight is the Pyle dual sealed beam replacement plate used to convert older Mazda bulb / reflector headlights to modern ( and brighter ) 200 watt sealed beams. The " nail " type antenna is also original equipment. > JB McCallum 1/1/2011 4:13:28 PM
J.B. McCallum General Also, those handrails are a T type first generation addition installed by GN roundhouses on most of the switcher fllet, another GN spotting feature. 1/1/2011 4:15:40 PM
