CRI&P E7 640 and RS2m 451 at Blue Island, Illinois, October 1979, photo by Chuck Zeiler. The E7 was built in February 1948 (c/n 3736) on EMD Order E712. The RS2m was built as an ALco RS2 during September 1948 (c/n 75953), and was sent to EMD in September 1957 for replacement of its Alco Model 244B prime mover with an EMD Model 567C. Although the 567C was capable of producing 1750 horsepower, it was rated at 1500 in this application, likely because of the reuse of the GE Model 752 traction motors. I do not know if the GE GT564C main generator was reused or if EMD's D12B was installed. The locomotive retained its as-built long hood forward configuration after the rebuilding. |
