Rick Hoar General I'm curious about these narrow guage conversions Pedro. I can see that they lengthen the frame. Are the engines rebuilt? Are the trucks off of older locomotives? They don't look new. Are the traction motors rebuilt? 3/28/2005 3:59:34 PM
Rick Hoar General I'm also guessing that they are articulated, attached in 3 points not 2? 3/28/2005 4:01:40 PM
Pedro Rezende General As you can see, EFVM bought old B36 and C36 in U.S and changed them to BB model. It also bought SD40, SD40T-2, SD40-2 and SD45-2 and are changing them to BB model. They lengthen the frames a bit to do a porch to the trucks. The trucks used by BB36-7 are brand new made here in Brazil by Cruzao. The ones uesed by dash 8 and 9 are made in U.S. In fact, EFVM ordered more 65 BB40-9W in U.S this year and they will arrive here with BB trucks made there. The trucks are articulated in 3 points with a span bolster. Look my pictures of locomotive 748 and you can see a close up view on them. See web page of cruzaco.com.br. There you can see the parts they do to these locos. The engine and traction motors are original from old B36/C36 units. Just the units that receivved EFVM painting are overhauled. All other ex-CR, NS and SP are original yet, but EFVM is doing a good overhaul program on them. 3/29/2005 5:44:40 AM
