DRR 1
Title:  DRR 1
Description:  Disneyland Railroad 4-4-0 #1, the "C.K. Holliday," was constructed by the Walt Disney Studio in 1954 and entered service on the Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad at Disneyland on Opening Day, July 17, 1955. The 36" gauge engine is named for Cyrus Kurtz Holliday, founder of the Santa Fe Railroad in 1859. It was designed to look like Walt Disney's "Lilly Belle" 1/8th scale live-steam model locomotive, which was the inspiration for Disneyland's railroad operation. DRR #1 underwent refurbishment in 2013 and was back in service in January 2016 - just in time for the temporary closing of the railroad due to the construction of the park's new Star Wars Land. The railroad will be rerouted as part of the construction. The engine was on display at the Fullerton train station, just a few miles north of Disneyland, for the annual Fullerton Railroad Days celebration.

On a Jolly Holliday...
Title:  On a Jolly Holliday...
Description:  It was no secret Walt Disney was a huge foamer, and the Disneyland Railroad was his private live steam operation. Due to the construction of a new Star Wars themed area, the Disneyland Railroad has temporarily suspended operation. With that, the steam crew has placed their locomotives on static display and are offering close up looks. This is myself, next to DLRR 1 which was based on Walt Disneys 7 1/4" gauge backyard steam train. Id say going from 7 1/4" scale to 3 is a huge way to upgrade a hobby, and that is what Walt did!

Description:  DLRR 1 the CK Holliday with a hand car. The DLRR 1 was built in 1955 by WED for use by the RETLAW corporation on its Disneyland Railroad. Lets just say WED was the initials of the parks owner, and RETLAW is his first name spelled backwards!

In the Hot Seat, going nowhere
Title:  In the Hot Seat, going nowhere
Description:  A Disneyland Railroad employee and myself in the engineers seat. One of the few benefits of the railroad not running right now was the chance to sit here. Of course they aren't letting people drive it :) There is a derail flag in the tunnel only a few feet away from here! This beautiful engine will only be steamed up for switch moves until 2017 when the line reopens again to complete the famed "Grand Circle Tour of Walt Disneys Magic Kingdom." Of note from my conversation with the DLRR employee: the steam engines on the line have speedometers that measure in feet, not MPH as line speeds rarely exceed 5 MPH. The boiler pressure of this locomotive was increased from 125 psi to 150 psi during its last rebuild, and now has more weight on it's drivers. This is important as the rerouted track being built for the Star Wars Land expansion will ad about a 2% grade and a sharp s-curve to the Disneyland Railroad's route. This new track routing will be the first left turn on the Disneyland Railroad's mainline after 60 years of operations. Previously the only left turn was the switch leaving the train shed onto the mainline.

Description:  This is the crowning jewel of the Lake Superior RR Museum and it sits proudlyj ust inside the entrance to the Lake Superior RR Museum. Originally built by the New Jersey Locomotive & Machine Company in 1861 originally for the Minnesota & Pacific Rwy, it was the very first steam locomotive to operate in the state of Minnesota. It's named after the Chief Mechanical Engineer of the Minnesota & Pacific Rwy.

Title:  GN 4-4-0 #1, " Wm Crooks"
Description:  With the changing light in the museum, the GN 4-4-0 #1 "William Crooks" appears dark and its brilliantly polished metalwork looks dim. The loco is anything but dim. This stands as an important piece of railroading history and its journey is fascinating to this railroad buff. Try googling it for fun!
