Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6439, a J-1 (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during October of 1943 and retired in November of 1958 after just 15 years of revenue service. The number of the N-5 cabin car is not recorded. Visible in the background are some of the building constituting the PRR's 12th Street Car Shops. In olden times, this was the site of three locomotive roundhouses as well as the Altoona Machine Shops which produced many of the Pennsy's engines following the end of the American Civil War. #4 of 6.

Description:  This is a much later (circa 1960's or so) reprint of an Altoona built Pennsylvania 2-10-4 taken around the mid-1950's.With Alan Fricker's help, it probably was in the Altoona scrap line around 1956 or so. Unfortunately no information was supplied with this photo and the number of the loco is unreadable. Glen James eagle eye was able to read the numberboard as #6440. Thanks to all!
