Description:  J.R. Quinn caught this 1918 Alco-Schenectady built 2-8-2 Mikado, CIL #553, sitting in the Monon South Hammond yard. With dieselization underway, this and its sister steam locomotives are already on borrowed time. Specs -serial #59683, J-2 class, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine weight of 292,000 lb, tractive effort of 54,724 lb. The J-2 class were all scrapped between 1947-49.
