| Album Info: | The GP59 was a 12 cylinder, 3000hp locomotive that shared a frame with its GP60 counterpart. NS was the only railroad to purchase them and they also bought the 3 EMD demos. The demos were unique in that that they featured rounded corners on the cab and nose, something that was not repeated on the production run. EMD demos became NS 4606, -07, and 08. NS started a program to rebuild them originally into GP59E's, and now GP59ECO's. However, all unrebuilt GP59's were purged from the roster in 2020. In late 2022, NS started renumbering remaining units from their 46xx numbers to 66XX numbers to make room for more AC44CM6's |
