Album Info:Norfolk Southern inherited many Deep South pulp and timber branches, and seemed to have a penchant for keeping them going when CSX and others did not. The Johnny Ray was no different, making a living providing pulpwood and woodchips from two woodyards on the line, and sawmill and an occasional load of lumber for a local building supply distributor. Even the historical society that garnered the Victorian style depoo in Lafayette, AL had its ex Southern bay window caboose delivered by the hardworking NS Lafayette Turn, the inheritor to the Johhny Ray and Roanoke Rocket locals that polished the rails so many years before. All photos taken by Glenn Marsh and from his collection.
