Album Info: | On Tuesday December 22nd i headed out to Macon, Georgia to chase GC's Y101 Macon to Dublin job. I found the train waiting at Joe Tamplin Industrial Boulevard, with the engines idling due to the freezing overnight temperatures. At around 9:30 the trains crew showed up and within minutes was off towards Dublin. Due to a recent visit by the FRA, 10 mph restrictions have been placed on much of the Macon to Dublin section so chasing was easy, at times too easy when i waited a hour for a train between two spots. In addition to the many grade crossing shots, i also photographed the train coming through Jeffersonville, Allentown, Montrose, and Dudley on its way to Dublin. While the Y101 switched the woodyard at Dudley i went to Dublin where I found the Dublin switcher tied down at the depot. Shortly after L872 chugged into town with 4 U-Boats boats putting on a show of sound and smoke. The two trains met in west Dudley where they swapped power and continued back to their home base in either Macon or Vidalia. Unfortunately by the time the Y101 was ready to head back to Macon there was just minutes of sun left and with the 10 mph speed limit i was only able to get one more shot with light (and two without) before heading home ending a great day on another of Georgia's fascinating shortlines.
A big thanks to everyone at the GC for their hospitality and a special thanks to Signal man Elton for showing me around and for the information leading up to this day. |
