Viewing Album: 05/23/09: Joliet, IL (BNSF Logistics Park)
By:
Scott Malec
Dates:
5/23/2009 - 5/23/2009
Album Info:
Today I visited BNSF's huge Logistics Park intermodal facility just south of Joliet on the grounds of the former Joliet Arsenal. After sitting at the Lorenzo Road grade crossing along the BNSF Transcon for over an hour and not seeing one train, I decided to check out the facility which was only a couple miles north. This place is not visitor friendly. After taking a few pics at the visitor's area on the northeast edge of the park, I drove around the public road that circles the entire facility and passes over the rail line on the southwest edge of the park. I took some pics from here and after my 2nd set of pics from the bridge, a couple of security types drove up and told me that the bridge is private property and I had to leave. I tracked back to the north end of the park and entered a huge gravel parking lot of a construction firm that borders the facility on the north. There I found a great view of the park but unfortunately it was through a chain-link fence. I was able to take a bunch of pics through the fence from that vantage point. About an hour later more security people showed up and told me that pic-taking of the facility was not allowed anywhere, even from another company's property. I didn't argue and just left. Logistics Park is a fascinating place and I only wish it was a little easier to take some pictures in the area. All pics in this album were taken between 2 and 4:30pm CST.
