| Album Info: | ConRail's Boston line is the former Boston & Albany RR. Completed in 1841 as two separate railroad's, the Boston & Worcester, and the Western Railroad, the B&A was the first true "mountain railroad" in North America. Starting in Boston at nearly sea level, it headed west, crossing two ranges of hills at elevations of 950 and 1,459 ft. before reaching Albany, NY. and back to nearly sea level, since the Hudson River is a tidal estuary all the way to Albany. |
