Album Info: | This album features pictures taken by either myself as a kid or my father around the SW Side of Chicago...mainly BRC's Clearing Yard, Argo Crossing (at the time the IHB was crossed by the IC, now the line is owned by CN) and various other locations. This was at a time when security was nowhere near as tight as it is now and I basically had free reign of railroad property including climbing up the hump at Clearing Yard and riding my bike the full length of the yard without being bothered by anyone. My how times have changed. These pics bring back a lot of good memories and I am posting them for the purpose of showing people what Chicago railroading was like in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Keep in mind that I was between the ages of 12 and 15 years old when these pics were taken and I was by no means a skilled photographer (I'm still not) so some of the pic quality is downright awful as I had yet to learn how to frame shots and avoid shooting directly into the sun. However the pics my father shot were pretty good. These pictures were all taken within an approximate 10 square mile area so as you can see, there was a huge variety of railroads operating in this area. Living near both the IHB and BRC was obviously helpful. This set of photos all were taken with a camera that imprinted the date so that was quite helpful. I do have another set that was taken with a different camera with no dates that I will post later. Anyways, for now..enjoy! |
