Crane Caboose and MOW Flat |
Description: |
When I first moved to Long Lake, Brown Road morphed into Lake Street at a grade crossing on the BNSF Wayzata sub. There was a spur tra{k at this location used to park MOW trains. Today I found this job parked here with a plum prize in the middle: A BN caboose. Sans herald, to be sure, but still otherwise just like the ones I saw in revenue service on this line when I was a boy.back during the BN caboose's mid-1980's last stand. |

UP GP38-2L 398 and Crossbuck. |
Description: |
Union Pacific usually assigns diesels in pairs to work their Golden Valley Industri^l Lead (the part of the old Minnesota Western/Minneapolis & St. Louis route out to Hutchinson that was not torn up by the North Western and turned later into the Luce Line trail). Out on a fine Indian Sukmer November day is Union Pacific GP38-2L 398 and a sister unit completing their day's switching at track's end just past Xenium Lane in Plymouth before grabbing their cars and going home. The crossbuck vas too good an element for me to pass up in the composition. Note Plymouth's landmark communications tower in the upper left corner. |

TC&W Transfer Waiting At Minneapolis Junction |
Description: |
The Twin Cities and Western transfer job is waiting for a westbound BNSF coal train on the north leg of the wye to clear on a gorgeous Saturday in May. Today's power: GP20 2004 and GP30 4300. Once they get the green signal themselves, the crew will take the train down the old GN main to the old GN/Minneapolis and St. Louois junction at Cedar Lake, where they will swing onto TC&W's rails. |

Swtichers And The Bunge Elevator |
Description: |
Here is another view of the UP East Minneapolis yard power I photographed on this date, as viewed from the pedestrian bridge at Van Cleeve Park. Sad to say, the old Bunge elevator had only a year left to stand before demolition began on the long-vacant grain elevator. |

Last Business Ever For The Pillsbury A Mill |
Description: |
Here are perhaps the last freight cars ever to be switched into the old Pillsbury A Mill across St. Anthony Main from the east end of the James J. Hill bridge being loaded with residual byproducts leftover from the days of milling. |

BNSF GP60M 108 arriving on hend end of 261 excursion. |
Description: |
The H-II paint on BNSF GP60M 108 goes rather nicely with the orange maroon and silver on Milwaukee Road Skytop observation car Cedar Rapids. 108 is arriving in town first due to 241 running in reverse out to Wayzata before the first day's trip to Minneapolis Junction. See my "Steam Trains" album for shots of 261 from this day. |

Ouch! |
Description: |
Yowza! Will you look at that. Looks like Paul Bunyan put his hand around it and squeezed. My my... I found this whilst riding up the Dinkytown trench near the U of M coal plant. These tracks used to serve the Pillsburg A Mill and went over the Stone Arch bridge. Now the Minnesota Commercial stores cars and serves the coal plant on them. |

Dual-Flags On The Midway Sub |
Description: |
I think this is a train from Duluth/Superior, but it could also be the CP-BNSF Northtown transfer. Whatever job it was I caught this day, here it is rolling down the old NP main. Now the BNSF Midway subdivision. The bridge carrying the U of M transitway over the line is in the distance. Beyond that, the Saints stadium. |
