Album Info: | In the fall of 2017, the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad added another locomotive to its historic diesel fleet in the form of GP9u 8218. This album showcases the unit's first few months in service on the Bucks County shortline.
A brief history of the 8218: Built by GMD in 1957 as Canadian Pacific Railway 8678, the unit was later rebuilt by CP as a GP9u, at which point it was renumbered 8218. In later years the locomotive was the main power on the CP Track Geometry Train and was retired from service in early 2015. Moving to Pennsylvania a few months later, it operated briefly on the neighboring Pennsylvania Northeastern Railroad before coming to New Hope. |
