Album Info: | Operating days are over for a trio of Conrail electrics at Morrisville on August 17, 1979. With pantographs down, E-44’s 4461 and CR blue 4427 lined up behind leading E-44’s 4417, 4432, and CR blue 4401. Following 4401, a trio of EMDs included SD40 6352, a CR blue SD40, and SD45 6209. At the tail end was E-33 4603 and SD40 6370. For only three dead electrics, it seemed overkill to add four SDs to assist the lead trio of E-44’s. Were the diesels going along for the ride west, or included in the funeral train? Other operations at Morrisville and the NEC that day showed GP30’s working the yard as solo units or in pairs, GP38-2 8082 preparing to head eastbound with a trio of U-boats, and GG1’s, E-60’s, and Metroliners east and westbound runs. |
