Album Info: | Alco’s were becoming short-timers for Conrail east of Conway in July, 1979. At Bethlehem Steel, the CR blue twin RS11’s, 7651 and 7652, were still hard at work, while outside the Bethlehem roundhouse RS11 7644 idled. One of only two CR SD7’s remained at Bethlehem with 6999 in PC black resting in the yard on June 30, but decked out in fresh CR blue a week later! Along with the dwindling of Alco’s, another change was the influx of ex-EL switchers and GP7’s that were outnumbering the ex-LV pups that handled Allentown’s hump in Conrail’s early years. Now, an SD38 and former RSD12 slug worked the hump. The days of Bethlehem being the home of ex-LV Alcos and SW-8’s was almost over. |
