Album Info: | The SRT has 5 preserved steam locomotives and regularly operates them for various special events, usually in every quarter. Most often run are the 824 and 850, both Japanese built Pacific types made right after WW2. They also have 1 operational Mikado type, No. 953 which operates less often and 2 others which seem to be rarely ever run. The special runs are usually day long events running to Bangkok's outlying areas and back and include generous evening photo layovers at Hua Lamphong Station. Round trip tickets are amazingly cheap (< $10) and often sell out to the admiring public!
Every year on Dec. 5th SRT runs the 'King's Birthday Special Service' in honour of HRH King Rama 9 -I think this year marks his 88th! The Miss and I had the privalege of participating in this year's events and present these photos...
