Description: |
After crossing the Fox River channel in Neenah, the CN follows former joint Milwaukee Road / Soo Line rail across Doty Island. The right of way run parallel River Street for a short distance as it crosses West North Water Street and Forest Avenue. At the lead end of the engine, one can spot the former Milwaukee and Northern (Milwaukee Road) Neenah depot on Forest Avenue. The train will cross the Fox River in Menasha once again as it leaves Doty Island. There used to be a few businesses to switch along this part of the line on Doty Island, but they all stopped using rail or closed. |

IC 3137 at U.S Papers / Sonoco |
Description: |
This mill was once the John Strange Paper Company, organized in 1891. It was originally John Strange Pail and Tub Company, organized in 1881. Pail and Tub started to make paper in 1888. Around 1969, John Strange Paper became a part of the Menasha Corporation and was again sold off in 1981 to U.S. Papers. U.S. Papers then became a part of Sonoco in 2001. My earliest recollections of the mill start about at the time of the switch to U.S. Papers. Since 1981, the mill has shrunk in size and rail traffic has diminished. Hopefully the mill will continue to provide jobs for many more years to come. |

On the left hand side of the photo is a concrete loading dock, with a long gently sloping ramp for fork lifts to gain access to the railcars. This ramp does not appear to have been used for a considerable length of time. Menasha Corporation expanded the facility over 2016-2017. One hopes it means an increase in traffic for the rails. |

IC 9625 |
Description: |
Thirty five years ago, this was the Soo Line yard in Neenah. The yard was usually quite full and bustling with activity. The Soo seemed to be the most prosperous railroad of the three serving the area. (Milwaukee Road and Chicago and Northwestern being the other two) Naive thinking had one believe the Soo would be around forever. The Milwaukee Road was up for sale, and would be gone, but not the Soo. The CNW also figured to be around for a long to come. It was only a matter of less than ten years for all three to be gone. Of the two yards in town, only the Soo Line yard remains serving close to its original purpose. There are many less boxcars, and the Soo white, red and black a fading memory. Back in 1982, a teenage rail fan, took it all for granted and would have never imagined the CN coming in and absorbing it all. |

A boxcar set on the side track at the printing/binding facility on Midway Road in Menasha. Once the crew of the local extracts the on spot cars, this one will be placed at one of the doors. This green space in front of the boxcar once held a glass enclosure displaying one of the George Banta Company's antique presses. Hopefully, it is preserved somewhere in the area. |

A pair of CSXT boxcars wait off spot along Tidi Products on the south side of Neenah. One does not see cars on this off spot location very often, so I assume the local crew was lurking about the area servicing the multiple industries lacated here. |

CN 9623 pulls its train between some warehouses as it winds its way back to what was the CNW main in Menasha. The light sand colored building beyond the engine is the old 1965 built CNW freight house. The train has just crossded Washington Street after servicing Chemtrade (formerly General Chemical). |

Description: |
After servicing Chemtrade, a local working industry on Doty Island in Menasha and Neenah, must negotiate some tight turns on its way back to the former CNW main and yard. The track here runs between a warehouse on the left, right and the former CNW freight house beyond the locomotive. This shot really illustrates the tight curve and undulating track. |
